The four Gospels we have in our Bible today are called Canonical Gospels. That means that they are included in the canon of scriptures. The early church fathers considered these four books to be inspired by God.
There are other historical books (some accurate, some fictitious) about the life of Christ which are not in most Bibles. In addition to the Book of Revelations and the three Epistles, that is, about thirty years after the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Temple, John wrote this Gospel with the intent of strengthening the faith in the Messiahnism and Divinity of Jesus, while, at the same time, complements the earlier Gospels - most specially from the spiritual point of view.
